The Catholic Church in Kerala is a communion of three Individual Churches of Latin, Syro-Malabar, and Syro-Malankara.

And whereas Pope John Paul II of happy memory has directed these (three individual) churches, in 1987, to establish Episcopal Bodies proper to each rite to facilitate the growth of each individual Church based on its history, legacy and tradition.
Whereas in response to the Holy Father’s directive the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) was reorganized and conferences of the Individual Churches were established, and CBCI was retained as a national Episcopal body for the three ecclesiastical rites in India. 
Whereas the National Conference of Latin Bishops’ known as the Catholic Conference of Bishops’ of India (CCBI) was established in 1988 and various commissions became operative under it.
The bishops of the Latin Catholic Dioceses in Kerala, comprising of 11 dioceses under the ecclesiastical provinces of Verapoly and Trivandrum, formed in 2001 an organization of the Latin Catholic Bishops of the ecclesiastical region of Kerala under the name Kerala Region Latin Catholic Bishops’ Council (KRLCBC). In 2014 Diocese of Sultanpet was erected and at present there are 12 dioceses in KRLCBC.
